When God makes a promise he keeps it. He doesn’t forget, he doesn’t change his mind and he’s always faithful. However there are some of His promises that depend upon our faithfulness?
Matthew 6:33 says, “Seek first God’s kingdom and his righteousness and all these things [food and clothing] shall be added to you.” At first glance, this may look like a verse that promises food and clothing to every follower of Christ. But when you look closely, it is conditioned upon seeking God’s kingdom.
When I first learned what the Bible said about money, it became clear that God has a role with money, and He’s also given us certain responsibilities. God is the owner of everything we have. “The earth is the Lord’s and everything in it” (Psalm 24:1). And He’s our provider. Our role is to handle whatever He’s entrusted to us His way as revealed in the Bible. When we don’t there are consequences.
One of many examples is found in Proverbs 28:27, “He who gives to the poor will lack nothing, but he who closes his eyes to them receives many curses.” In this passage, God’s provision is conditioned upon being generous to the needy.
One of the reasons it’s crucial to learn what the Bible says about handling money, is so that we can learn how to be faithful to do our part. When we are financially faithful, we can be sure God will do His part.
