Update from Howard 8/30

Dear Friends,

What a difference a week makes! Week before last visited toasty Dallas and it’s 105o weather . . . this week in the mountains of western North Carolina at Blowing Rock and greeted with morning temperatures in the low 50s. The only constant: GREAT people involved with Compass!!!

Radio: Just received our monthly “radio log” that identifies the stations carrying our radio programs. Hey Howard is carried by approximately 1,101 stations and outlets—did I say approximately 🙂 . And the half hour MoneyWise call in program that Steve Moore and I host is now carried by 550—this is an increase of more than 100 over the past two months. These logs are on the www.compass1.org web site if you’d like to see the stations carrying the programs in your area.

If your local Christian station doesn’t carry the programs and you’d like to encourage them to do it, please give them a call and ask them. I believe with all my heart that God’s people need to hear what He says about money, especially with the world economy in such a challenging place. Also, we just added a terrific station in the Boston area because a local couple helped underwrite the cost. If you’d like to help do something similar in your area, please let us know.

Business By the Book: About 9 years ago the Lord had me work on a small group study and on a DVD series titled Business By The Book. It was partially based on Larry Burkett’s classic book of the same title. The next couple of days, Compass’ president, Dave Rae, and I will be meeting with a focus group of business people and leaders of ministries to the business community to refresh and improve these materials. I would appreciate you joining in prayer that the Lord would enable significant improvements. This will become one of our five core small group studies.

Who knew?: Talked yesterday to Yvonne Mitto, our key staff person in New England. Who could have guessed that New England would be hit with a large hurricane this season before Florida. Please pray for all the people who are trying to recover from this storm.

So grateful for the opportunity to share with you!

Warmly in Christ,
Howard

Assumable mortgages are a thing of the past our real estate agent told us. We sold a home using that method years ago with both parties satisfied with the results. If the buyer defulted on payments the property reverted back to us was worth the risk. Banks and other lending agencies would lower their forecloser inventory by reinstating them. Your caller was advised to “offer to buy the mortgage” prompted my question. Thank you for being a Psalm 1 ministry.
